Motoya Iwataya is on the seventh floor of the Iwataya department store in Tenjin, Fukuoka, and serves soba made from 100% buckwheat with tempura. Its signature tenzaru soba pairs cold, chewy noodles with two shrimp and tempura of pumpkin, eggplant, and green beans, and the noodles are dipped in tsuyu with scallion and wasabi. At lunch, a wait of about ten people still led to entry in roughly ten minutes, and an English menu and cashless payment are available. The burdock tempura is crisp but bland in flavor, and in some cases eating it caused indigestion.
