A bronze statue of Toyotomi Hideyoshi stands in Osaka Castle Park, in front of the torii of Hokoku Shrine opposite the Sakura Gate. The figure wears a jinbaori over armor and holds a military baton, facing the direction of the Osaka Castle keep. The original statue was removed in 1943 when metal was requisitioned, and the current statue was rebuilt in 2007 by sculptor Shinya Nakamura. The site honors the figure who launched the Japanese invasions of Korea, which draws a frown from Korean visitors.
