Kokyo Gaien is a national park spread out near Tokyo Station and the Marunouchi skyscrapers. Across its wide lawns and roughly 2,000 black pine trees, Ishibashi, Nijubashi and the Sakashita-mon gate are visible. In the morning many people use it as a counterclockwise running course, and a wide moat continues alongside. The Emperor's residence cannot be approached closely and must be viewed from a distance.
