Gijang Hyanggyo is a Joseon-era local education institution in Busan where the old hyanggyo buildings can be seen. The site retains Daeseongjeon, Myeongnyundang, Dongjae and Seojae, Punghwaru, Sinsammun, and Sesimmun, with the front section used for education and the rear section housing the memorial tablets of sages. It was built in 1440 under King Sejong, destroyed during the Imjin War, restored in 1617, and Daeseongjeon was repaired in 1974, and modern classrooms were also added. The site is used for children's experiential learning and etiquette education for elementary school students.
