The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona displays painting from Romanesque through modern art, and sits on the Plaça d'Espanya side. A chronological route runs through Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Modernisme works, and paintings by Spanish regional artists are also on view. Admission is free from 3 pm on Saturdays and can be booked in advance on the website, and the rooftop terrace looks out to the sea and the Sagrada Família. Many of the paintings resemble Catholic works, so the museum does not suit visitors who dislike repetitive displays.
