Watabe is a freshwater eel restaurant a five-minute walk from Kasuga Station. Its signature enma-chu combines salt-grilled and sauce-grilled eel in one dish, and it serves both the Kanto style, where the eel is steamed once before grilling, and the Kansai style, grilled directly over fire. After ordering, the eel takes about 30 minutes to arrive, and hire-yaki and kimo-yaki must be requested separately when booking. Reservations open two months in advance and fill quickly, so scheduling a visit is not easy.
