San Marco

San Marco is a Japanese curry shop on the basement first floor of Takashimaya Kyoto in Shijo Kawaramachi. Its signature dishes are katsu curry, a thick roux blended from about 20 spices topped with freshly fried tonkatsu, and pickled cabbage. The counter seats around eight people on yellow-backed chairs, where the curry is eaten with various condiments and toppings. The small number of seats means a line forms at lunchtime.
