It is close to night-view spots that look across the Huangpu River at European-style historic buildings and at skyscrapers in Pudong such as the Dongfang Mingzhu and Shanghai Tower. Waitan lights come on at 19:00 and go off at 22:00 from March to October, and come on at 18:00 and go off at 22:00 from November to February. Tourist numbers are especially high on weekends.
