Ishitake Observatory looks out over the Kujukushima islands of the Sasebo area and is about a 20-minute drive from Sasebo Station. It is the highest viewpoint from which the whole of Kujukushima, a noted feature of Sasebo, can be seen at once, and the island scenery is clearest in the morning. From behind the parking lot, a forest path leads up to the observatory in three to ten minutes, and lights are on at night until 9:30 p.m. The road to the observatory is a narrow single lane, so driving is difficult when there are many vehicles.
