Ufficio Scavi

Ufficio Scavi in Vatican City is a historic site where visitors tour an ancient necropolis beneath St. Peter's Basilica. Guided tours examine remains of the old basilica and part of St. Peter's tomb under Bernini's baldachin. The tour descends three levels below the current basilica and takes about one hour. Tickets must be requested from the Scavi office in advance.
