Santa Maria del Popolo stands on the north side of Piazza del Popolo in Rome and holds Renaissance and Baroque painting and sculpture. The Cerasi Chapel contains two works by Caravaggio, and the Chigi Chapel is known as a space designed by Raphael. Construction began in 1099 under Pope Paschal II, the church was rebuilt in Renaissance style in the 15th century, and Bernini reworked the interior in Baroque style. Viewing the Caravaggio works requires a separate payment to turn on the lighting.
