Palatino Hill is an archaeological site between the Colosseum and the Foro Romano where ancient palace and imperial residence remains can be seen. It is held to be the place where Romulus founded Rome, emperors and nobles built their palaces there, and the hill is the origin of the word "palace." Entry can involve a wait of about 30 minutes at the entrance and identity is checked, with water fountains and toilets along the way, and the Colosseum combined ticket allows entry within 24 hours. There is little explanatory signage, so the spaces that remain only as sites are hard to understand without a guide.
