The Bocca della Verità is a circular stone carving in the Basilica di Santa Maria in Cosmedin, between the Tiber River and the Circus Maximus. It appears in the film Roman Holiday, and legend holds that a liar who puts a hand in its mouth will have it bitten off. The stone slab is thought to have been a fountain ornament or manhole cover for an ancient Roman noble. Entry is free, staff can hold your phone or you can take the photo yourself, and on arrival at 5:10 p.m. the wait was 20 minutes with the photo taken within 5 seconds.
