The Appian Way in Rome is an ancient Roman road that visitors walk or cycle. Built in 312 BC as a military road, it runs 16 km past catacombs and ancient ruins as an open-air historical site. Some sections keep the stone paving from 2,300 years ago, and electric bicycles can be reserved to ride it. The surroundings open onto fields and the Roman countryside.
