The East Observatory is a viewing point on the eastern wall of Shuri Castle, looking down over Naha and the sea. From the highest point inside Shuri Castle at about 140 meters above sea level, it takes in the main hall under restoration, the city of Naha, and on clear days Kudaka Island and the Kerama Islands. It is about a five-minute walk from the restoration work area, and every day at noon a time signal that has continued since earlier times sounds. The spot looks down over the curved outline of the castle wall.
