Rokujuan is a cafe in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, set inside a traditional Japanese house and garden. It serves warabimochi with matcha and hojicha, and you can choose sweet potato zenmai or mizu shingen mochi alongside your tea. Before you sit, staff explain in English or Japanese the roughly 100-year history of the house and its past as a painter's residence, then guide you to a garden seat. The tea and mizu shingen mochi taste fairly ordinary compared with expectations.
