Hanamakiya

Hanamakiya is a soba shop near Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto that serves herring soba and zaru soba. Its signature dishes are a hot soba topped with a whole herring simmered in sweet soy, and cold noodles made in-house that snap cleanly when bitten. At the entrance, write your name on the waiting list on the right and wait to be called, and inside there are several low tables. At lunch you can wait about 20 minutes.
