Yeonghwadang is a hall on the east side of Buyongji in the rear garden of Changdeokgung in Seoul, used as a resting place for the royal family. Kings and officials held banquets and shot arrows here, and from the reign of King Jeongjo it hosted the final stage of the state examination. It was first built during the reign of Prince Gwanghae, and the current building was rebuilt during the reign of King Sukjong, with a signboard written by King Yeongjo and calligraphy by several kings remaining. Visitors take off their shoes to enter, but Chundangdae is blocked by a wall, making the courtyard feel narrow.
