Phra Maha Monthian is a group of traditional Thai-style historical halls in the centre of the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Its three halls served as spaces for royal audiences, receptions for foreign guests, and royal ceremonies, and also housed royal living quarters. Construction of the hall complex began in 1785, and the coronations of Thai kings from Rama II onward have been held here. The main entrance, Thewaphiban Gate, is decorated with Chinese ceramics in various colours and a Thai-style spire.
